From Ῥωμᾱνός (Rhōmānós, Roman) +‎ -ῐ́ᾱ (-ĭ́ā).

Usage notes

Ῥωμανία does not refer to modern Romania, which modern Greeks call Ρουμανία to distinguish it from the Byzantine Empire (Ρωμανία).
