上行

1. to ascend

     Tiāndào xiàjì ér guāngmíng, dìdào bēi ér shàngxíng. [Pinyin]

     It is the way of heaven to send down its beneficial influences below, where they are brilliantly displayed. It is the way of earth, lying low, to send its influences upwards and (there) to act.

3. (Taiwan, of trains) to go up to the north
4. (Mainland China, of trains) to go in the direction of the capital (Beijing)
5. to send to higher authorities (as of documents)
6. (of prices, indexes, etc.) to rise

In Mainland China, trains going in the direction of Beijing (i.e. "up" trains) have even-numbered train codes.
