Usage notes

According to Hokkien folk beliefs, women giving birth should avoid seeing flowing red liquid (including blood), or any flowing liquid and things bearing the color of 紅霞 / 红霞 (âng-hê, “red clouds”). Some women inherently have 流蝦 / 流虾 (liû-hê) in their horoscope. A ritual to resolve this condition can be conducted by a Taoist priest, involving scalding shrimps, 紅蝦 / 红虾 (âng-hê), and burning special paper money, 流蝦錢 / 流虾钱 (liû-hê-chîⁿ), with a depiction of shrimps in water.
