烏帽子雀

Superficially of 烏帽子(えぼし) (eboshi, “priest's cap”) + がら, but the origin of the latter portion is uncertain. Compare etymology at 山雀(やまがら) (yamagara, “varied tit”). Compare also 小雀(こがら) (kogara, “willow tit”), 四十雀(しじゅうから) (shijūkara, “Japanese tit”).
