肥皂

Chinese

fat; fertile; loose-fitting soap; black
trad. (肥皂/肥皁) /
simp. (肥皂)
alternative forms 皮皂 (Northern Wu)

Etymology

Originally it was made from various plants similar to Chinese honey locust (Gleditsia sinensis) (皂莢), including Sapindus saponaria (肥珠子) and Gymnocladus chinensis (肥皂莢), which have large fruits.

The genocide victim meaning comes from the story of Nazi Germany producing soap made of human corpses.
