1. dragon dance, a traditional Chinese folk dance, also performed in Nagasaki and other places

     そこで、まず先生(せんせい)が、「みんな、これを覚(おぼ)えているかい」そう言(い)ってテープレコーダーのスイッチをいれました。「ジャン、ジャン、ジャーン……」という例(れい)の長崎(ながさき)の「おくんち」の蛇(じゃ)踊(おど)りのおはやしがテープから流(なが)れてくるんです。

     Soko de, mazu sensei ga,“minna, kore o oboete iru kai” sō itte tēpu rekōdā no suitchi o iremashita.“Jan, jan, jān……” to iu rei no Nagasaki no “okunchi” no jaodori no ohayashi ga tēpu kara nagarete kuru n desu.

     Then, first the teacher, saying “Everyone, do you remember this?” switches on the tape recorder. “Jang, jang, jang...” a sample of the accompaniment to Nagasaki's “okunchi” dragon dance thunders from the tape.
