Etymology
Borrowed from Portuguese gibão (“jerkin”), from Old Italian gippone, from Old Spanish aljuba, from Arabic الْجُبَّة (al-jubba). The kanji spelling is an example of ateji (当て字).[1][2][3][4] Doublet of ズボン.
