  1. a cant; argot; cryptolect; slang; a language meant to only be used in secret within a particular group or for mutuality
    Example:
    • 叩き (tataki, a robbery; theft by force or violence ← beating, used by thieves)
    • でか (deka, detective, originally used by thieves, but now used as a general slang)
    Synonym: 隠し詞 (kakushikotoba)
  2. a riddle
  3. vulgar or obscene language
  4. a cipher

Usage notes

隠語 (ingo) is used for slang restricted to a certain group, i.e. a cant or argot, while 俗語 (zokugo) is used for slang that is in widespread use (and also interchangeably used with スラング (surangu).
