From Proto-Indo-European *uh₂g-énti ~ wóh₂g-ei, ultimately from the root *weh₂g- (“to break apart, split, burst”).[1] Compare Palaic [script needed] (wa-ak-ka₄-kán-ta, 3rd person plural preterite active), Ancient Greek ἄγνυμι (ágnumi, “to break”), Tocharian A wāk- and Tocharian B wāk-.
