Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *uh₂g-énti ~ wóh₂g-ei, ultimately from the root *weh₂g- (to break apart, split, burst).[1] Compare Palaic [script needed] (wa-ak-ka₄-kán-ta, 3rd person plural preterite active), Ancient Greek ἄγνυμι (ágnumi, to break), Tocharian A wāk- and Tocharian B wāk-.
