1. forms abstract nouns from adjectives or common nouns

   ‎मर्दाना (mardānā, “manly”) + ‎-गी (-gī) → ‎मर्दानगी (mardānagī, “manliness”)

Usually only forms nouns from Perso-Arabic adjectives ending in -आ (-ā), and this suffix replaces the -आ (-ā). It is equivalent to the -ई (-ī) of Perso-Arabic origin, which is used after consonants.
