Sino-Vietnamese word from 菩薩, from Chinese 菩薩 / 菩萨 (púsà, “bodhisattva”). While there are many bodhisattvas, the Bodhisattva remains Quan Âm (“Avalokiteshvara; Guanyin”). Compare Phật (“a buddha; the Buddha”) and Chúa (“a lord; the Lord”).
