Etymology

Borrowed from Swedish Laxå, from Swedish Laxån (Laxån River), from lad + -s- + å (from Old Norse hlað and á). Literally, Pile Creek, referring to an artificial bank under an ancient bridge, which was a part of the Erik’s Road. False cognate of Norwegian Nynorsk Lakså.
