Etymology
Borrowed from Swedish Laxå, from Swedish Laxån (“Laxån River”), from lad + -s- + å (from Old Norse hlað and á). Literally, “Pile Creek”, referring to an artificial bank under an ancient bridge, which was a part of the Erik’s Road. False cognate of Norwegian Nynorsk Lakså.
