Etymology
From Ancient Greek λοβός (lobós, “lobe”) + Ancient Greek πούς (poús, “foot”) + -ia.
Proper noun
Lobopodia f
- A taxonomic phylum within the superphylum Ecdysozoa – soft-bodied, marine worm-like fossil panarthropods; lobopodians.
Usage notes
There are a few concepts that use this name, differing by their circumscription. When this grouping refers only to the soft-bodied, marine worm-like extinct panarthropods, and not the other panarthropods (arthropods, onychophorans, and tardigrades), which evolved from lobopodian ancestors, it is paraphyletic.
