    From Ancient Greek Παλαιστίνη (Palaistínē), derived from παλαιστής (palaistḗs, wrestler); compare perhaps Hebrew יִשְׂרָאֵל (yisra'él), sometimes translated as “he wrestles with God”; (see there for more), from Biblical Hebrew פְּלֶשֶׁת (P'léshet, Philistia, land of the Philistines).
