Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *skwoy-ós (o-grade), *skuy-ós (zero-grade), from *skwey- (needle, prickle, thorn). Doublet of *skaujás. Cognate with Proto-Albanian *skuja and its derivative *skuna, from which Albanian hu (stake, pole; penis), *skuntā, from which Albanian hundë (nose).
