Proto-Finnic

Etymology

From earlier *tušanti, borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Proto-Balto-Slavic *tū́ˀsantis), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *tuHsont-. Compare Erzya тёжань (ťožań), borrowed from the same Baltic source.

Note however that Jakob (2023) argues that this theory suffers from phonological issues, suggesting a potential common substrate origin for the Balto-Slavic, Germanic and Finnic words.[1]
