Proto-Indo-Iranian

Etymology

Per Lubotsky, a compound of Proto-Indo-Iranian *HástʰH (bone) and the derivative of Proto-Indo-European *(s)kiHu- (shin). The first element is from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ésth₁. According to Martirosyan, the second element is independently reflected in Old Armenian ճիւ (čiw), an Iranian borrowing; compare also Proto-Slavic *cě̄và (shin, bobbin).
