Compound of *-janъ + *-inъ (agentive suffix), a palatalized variant of *-ěninъ, from *-ěnъ and *-aninъ.

- Creates male dweller terms from toponyms or place terms:
- *selo (“village”) → *seľaninъ (“villager”)
- *gordъ (“town, bourgh”) → *gorďaninъ (“burgher”)
- *mirъ (“world”) → *miřaninъ (“world-dweller”)
- *gora (“mountain”) → *gořaninъ (“mountain-dweller”)
- *lęda (“open land, field”) → *lęďaninъ (“field-dweller”)
- *bergъ (“coast”) → *beržan(in)ъ (“coastal dweller”)
