Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *śwaitas, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweyt- (“to shine”). Cognate with Lithuanian šviẽsti (“to shine”), Sanskrit श्वेत (śvetá, “white, bright”), Proto-Germanic *hwītaz (“white”). Doublet of *květъ.[1]
