Etymology
Created during the territorial reorganization with effect from 1 January 1970 out of preceding three municipalities Schloß Holte in Kreis Wiedenbrück and Stukenbrock in Kreis Paderborn and the largest part of Sende also in Kreis Wiedenbrück, the other part of which went to Sennestadt, and for three years part of Kreis Bielefeld, but after its dissolution from 1 January 1973 Kreis Gütersloh. Not a town (Stadt) before 1 January 2003.
