Etymology

First attested as leuetlaus [read: lendlaus] in 712. Derived from the name of Saint Hubertus and a compound of Proto-Germanic *lindō (“linden, Tilia sp.”) and *lauhaz (“light forest”). The element Sint-Huibrechts was added to distinguish the settlement from Kaulille by way of a reference to a local cult of the saint.
