Etymology
Calque of Ecclesiastical Latin Dominica in Albīs, itself a contraction of Dominica in Albīs dēpōnendīs or dēpositīs, “Sunday for putting away the white things”, i.e. the white robe of baptism traditionally received by those newly baptised at Easter. Doublet of Whitsunday.
