Etymology
ala- + -(h)alla; the superessive singular of the stem ala-. The original form of this word can be seen in alahalla (which shows one of the original forms of the superessive suffix -alla, or alternatively is the same as the -h- in -hinen), from which the standard form has developed by metathesis.
