Borrowed from Tamil அணைக்கட்டு (aṇaikkaṭṭu, dam for regulating the flow of an irrigation channel), from அணை (aṇai) +‎ கட்டு (kaṭṭu). Also compare Kannada ಅಣೆಕಟ್ಟು (aṇekaṭṭu) with the same construction.
