From French bonduc, from Arabic بُنْدُق (bunduq, “hazelnut, pebble, bullet”), from Middle Persian 𐭐𐭍𐭃𐭊 (pondik, “hazelnut”), from Ancient Greek Ποντικόν κάρυον (Pontikón káruon, “Pontic nut”). Doublet of bundook.
