Etymology

From Hokkien 𣍐 /  / 𫧃 / (bōe, cannot) +‎ Malay tahan (to endure; to withstand; to bear), which in Hokkien would be 打限 (bōe tá-hān). The equivalent expression in Malay is tak boleh tahan.
