From Proto-Albanian *būtsā, or Proto-Albanian *būðā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰudʰmḗn (bottom), possibly from *dʰewb- (deep). Cognate to Sanskrit बुध्न (budhna, bottom), Ancient Greek πυθμήν (puthmḗn, bottom), and Old English botm (English bottom).
