Etymology

From ca- +‎ mërdhok (“pebble”), variation of papërdhok (“pebble”). Compare çikë (“girl”).[1] Alternatively, Junk and Logoreci see camërllok as the base form. Çabej also supports camërllok and derives it from callok as ca + -më- infix + llok with epenthesis of an r (similar to tramëzoj from trazoj), ultimately from cull.[2]
