Etymology

Either a variation of papërdhok (“pebble”),[1] or from camërdhok (“little boy”) with the separation of the ca syllable which was felt as a separate formant, similar to vec from kastravec (“cucumber”). Djamo-Diaconița derives it from mbërdhi +‎ -ok but Çabej rejects it.[2]
