cirkka
Ingrian
Etymology 1
Uncertain:
- Possibly borrowed from Russian чирок (čirok, “billet”), itself probably related to чурка (čurka).
- Alternatively, from Etymology 2, possibly due to the piece's motion resembling that of a cricket.
Related to dialectal Finnish sirkka and Veps tširk.
