From ì- (“nominalizing prefix”) + là (“to separate, divide, part”) + orí (“head”), literally “The one with the parted head”, from the fact that the guards often had hairstyles in which one side of the head was bald, and the other side had hair. The second sense has the same etymology, but comes from the fact that this comb would separate hair
