komats

Via other European languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin comma, itself a borrowing from Ancient Greek κόμμα (kómma), from κόπτω (kóptō, “I cut”). The term was made into a 1st-declension masculine noun with an additional final t, probably following the Ancient Greek declensional paradigm (κόμμα (kómma), gen. κόμματος (kómmatos)).
