Etymology

Borrowed from Swahili malaika (angel), from Arabic مَلَائِكَة (malāʔika), plural of مَلْأَك (malʔak), from Ge'ez መልአክ (mälʾäk, messenger, angel), a calque of Aramaic מַלְאֲכָא / ܡܠܐܟܐ (malʾăḵā, angel, messenger), and Hebrew מַלְאָךְ (malʾā́ḵ, angel, messenger).
