Etymology
From Proto-Tai *C̥.baːᴮ (“shoulder”).[1]
In Zuojiang Zhuang, cognate with mbaq (Ningming, Longzhou dialects),[2] mbaq as in geuqmbaq,[2] mbah (Daxin dialect).[2]
In Central Tai, cognate with Nong Zhuang mbaq as in lungzmbaq,[2] Tày bá.
In Southernwesten Tai, cognate with Thai บ่า (bàa), Northern Thai ᨷ᩵ᩤ, Lao ບ່າ (bā), Shan မႃႇ (màa) or ဝႃႇ (wàa), Ahom 𑜈𑜡 (bā).
Possibly cognate with Proto-Austronesian *qabaʀa (“shoulder”).[3]
