Etymology
Both Gardiner and Allen suggest the preposition could be a reduplication of m (“in”).[1][2] Gardiner takes the adverb separately and considers it apparently an 18th Dynasty development from jmj.[3]

- Conventional anglicization: mem

Usage notes
Only used with plural pronouns and plural nouns, e.g. ẖrd mm bꜣkw (“a child among the servants”) or nouns with a plural sense, e.g. ngꜣw mm mnmnt (“A steer amongst the herd”).
mm is used in a more abstract or general sense than jmjtw, which refers more to a specific physical position among some nouns.
