Etymology

Probably from lengthened and diathematic e-grade form Proto-Albanian *mel-i-t-ja, from Proto-Indo-European *mel- (to hesitate; bad, wrong, false). Compare Greek μόλις (mólis, with difficulty), Old Irish mall (be late). Alternatively from Proto-Slavic *mъdьliti.[1]
