plauksta

Latvian

Etymology

Cognate with Russian плюсна́ (pljusná), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *pl(j)ousk-. Pokorny compares Latin plautus (flatfooted), Latin plaudo (I applaud), Ancient Greek πλαίσιον (plaísion, oblong case), but a shared origin for all of these words is far from certain; possibly [1] Proto-Indo-European *pleth₂- (flat).
