From French ruana and its etymon, Spanish ruana (woolen fabric or garment),[1] of disputed origin. Suggestions include Latin rūga (wrinkle),[2][3] Quechua ruana (textile),[3] and Chibcha ruana (land of blankets);[4] see Wikipedia.
