Etymology

Calque of English hat trick. Popularized in French by the Montreal hat-maker Henri Henri in the context of ice hockey; borrowing the tradition from cricket, it offered one of its hats as a prize to any hockey player who scored three goals in one match at the Montreal Forum.[1]
