From Old Galician-Portuguese tregua (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), probably from Gothic 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍅𐌰 (triggwa), inflected form of 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍅𐍃 (triggws, “true, faithful”); but attested Medieval Latin treuga points perhaps to a West Germanic *trewwa, from Proto-Germanic *trewwō.[1]
