Etymology
From Proto-Hmong-Mien *tshji̯əŋ (“new”), borrowed from Middle Chinese 清 (MC tshjeng, “clear, quiet”). Cognate with Proto-Hmong-Mien *ntshji̯əŋ (“clear”), whence ntshiab (“clear”).[1]
