Etymology

From Classical Mongolian ᠲᠡᠷ᠎ᠡ᠋ (ter-e, that), from Middle Mongol ᠲᠡᠷᠡ (tere) and ᠲᠡᠷ᠎ᠡ᠋ (ter-e, that), from Proto-Mongolic *tere (that). Cognate with Buryat тэрэ (tere, that), Kalmyk тер (ter, that; he, she, it), Dongxiang tere, etc.

Replaced original (i, compare Daur ing) for sense ‘he, she, it’ as the third-person singular pronoun.
