Old Anatolian Turkish
Etymology 1
From Proto-Turkic *idi. Accoring to Ayverdi, the word evolved as *idi > اذی (iẕi) > *iyi > *i: > *i:-si ("it's owner") > issi, with the consonants geminating due to the influence of the long vowel. The alternative form اس (is, ıs) is a result of the word being reanalyzed as is-si. Doublet of ایه (iye).
Alternative forms
- اس (is, ıs)
Noun
اِسِّی • (issi) (definite accusative اسیی (issyi), plural اسیلر (issiler))
- owner, possessor; one who owns, holds, or possesses something
- master, someone who has control over something or someone.
- Lord, God, a honorific way to refer to a deity
