Etymology

Inherited from Middle Persian 𐫀𐫏𐫅𐫡 (ʾydr /⁠ēdar⁠/, here), which is combined from 𐫀𐫏𐫅 (ʾyd /⁠ēd⁠/, this) and *𐫡 (*r /⁠-ar⁠/) from Old Persian 𐎡𐎭𐎠 (i-d-a, here) from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hidʰá. Akin to Parthian [Term?] (/⁠ērad⁠/), Northern Kurdish here (here), Central Kurdish ئێرە (êre), Southern Kurdish ئیرە (îre); all metathetic. Compare with Urdu ادھر (idhar, here) and ادھر (udhar, there).
