Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish قوینو (qoynu), from Proto-Turkic *kōń (“bosom”);[1][2] cognate with Azerbaijani qoyun, Bashkir ҡуйын (quyın), Chuvash хӳ (hü), Kazakh қойын (qoiyn), Kyrgyz койын (koyın), Southern Altai койын (koyïn), Turkmen goýun, Uyghur قويۇن (qoyun) and Uzbek qo’yin.
