Etymology
Univerbation of ماـ (ma-, negative prefix) + عليه (ʕalēh, “on it, about it”) + ـش (-š, negative suffix), literally “[there's] nothing about it”. Cognate with Hijazi Arabic and South Levantine Arabic معليش (maʕlēš).
