Etymology
Inherited from Middle Hindi پوتا (pvta),[1] from Prakrit *𑀧𑁄𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀅 (*pŏttaa), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀧𑁄𑀢𑀓 (potaka /pottaka/), from Sanskrit पौत्र (paútra) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-).[2]
