Usage notes

  • sense 2 & 3: In Eastern varieties of Persian, چادر (čādar / čâdor) may be used to ref to scarfs and veils broadly, including scarves loosely worn around the head or neck. However, referring to loose scarves as چادر (čādar / čâdor) would be inappropriate in Iranian Persian.

Descendants

Some of these may descend from the Middle Persian ancestor. In particular, the word is recorded in an 11th century dictionary of Turkic languages.
