Inherited from Middle Hindi ہاتھ (hath) c. 1503 / ہات (hāt) c. 1503 / ہَتھ (hath) / ہَت (hat),[1] from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀳𑀢𑁆𑀣 (hattha), from Sanskrit हस्त (hasta),[2] from Proto-Indo-Iranian, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰés-to- (hand), from *ǵʰes-. Doublet of دَسْت (dast). Cognate with Punjabi ہَتھّ / ਹੱਥ (hattha). Wider cognates include Pashto لاس (lâs), Persian دست (dast).
