Etymology
From the root उष् (uṣ, “to burn, consume”), and ultimately from *h₁ews- (“to burn”), cognate with Latin ussī? The line of logic would go that a head covering keeps the head warm. Would thus also be related to Sanskrit उष्ण (uṣṇa).
